Copenhagen

Slept well last night and breakfasted well this morning in Copenhagen, Denmark.  Seems surreal.

We made an unexpected discovery last evening which led to an unplanned-for extension of our stay here in Copenhagen.  As we left the restaurant and passed by the ticket office for Tivoli Gardens Betty saw a poster that announced A JAMES TAYLOR CONCERT in Tivoli Gardens for tonight!  Yep, that James Taylor.  We got tickets and we're going to hear some "Fire and Rain" here in about four hours.  (Blogging this at 4:00 p.m.)

With that decision made we began a walking tour that Betty had pulled off of Frommer's website.   Even with rain, walking in this old European capital was exciting.  Following is a sampling of what we saw this morning:

Nytorv Square

We have Seattle Drip.  They have Copenhagen Drip.

Stroget ("Stroll"), a major shopping area in the heart of Copenhagen.

Betty in Lego Land.  She'll be the envy of her grandsons.

Tutti-Fruitti stand

Hojbro Plads (Plaza)

Rain is no hindrance to Danish moms of infants.

Christiansborg Palace

Round Tower, built 1637-42.

Mercury?

Helligandskirken ("Church of the Holy Ghost") is Copenhagen's oldest, founded in early 15th century.

Church of Our Lady

Statuary of the Lord Jesus and His disciples.

The inscription over His head is Matthew 3:17 in Danish:  "This is My beloved Son, in Whom I am well pleased."

Dating from 1530, this was once the site of thundering sermons by Hans Tausen, a father of the Danish Reformation.  Today this historic building is an art gallery, no longer a church (note the banner).  Brochures state, "In art we trust."

Reformation Monument

Each side had a frieze depicting some event of the Reformation.

Off to dinner and the James Taylor concert.  Will post about Tivoli Gardens and the concert tomorrow from Germany, Lord willing.

  1. Adair, Silas and I just got through seeing and commenting on every single picture! These are fabulous and we feel like we are there! Love it!

"I like the cities in Denmark," Silas says.

"I like the Mermaid and the Legos," sweetly said Adair. "I would like to sit in her (the mermaid's) lap."

Silas recognized the mermaid statue from his geography book. They actually both yelled when they saw your picture of it:) Was fun for them to make the connection.

    Looking forward to seeing more!

  3. Uncle Ron and Aunt Betty,
We have been following your trip blog. It has been enjoyable to track you and see the sights. Thanks. The shuttle thing in D.C. was serendiptious, but... James Taylor? That is just plain luck! Maybe the Lord is granting you this to help you avoid a sudden case of homesickness somewhere down the road.

Whilst in Copenhagen, I hope you might give heed to Soren Kirkegaard... a brilliant mind, a troubled soul, and a very prayerful Christian.
