Jackson to Washington

John picked us up this morning a few minutes early, around 4:15 a.m. Thanks, John, for missing some sleep for us!

Check-in at Jackson International Airport was a snap, and pretty soon we were ready to board.  Takeoff was around 6:00 a.m.  Like my new brim?

Ninety minutes later we were in Charlotte, NC - smooth landing, big airport.

After another short (50 minute) flight, we landed safely at Washington Dulles Airport, 11:30 a.m. EDT.

Like us, you may have seen the final flight of the Space Shuttle Discovery on television yesterday.  It was flown on the back of a 747 into Dulles Airport, to be permanently displayed in a Smithsonian annex here.  Knowing that we were headed for Dulles, Betty asked me yesterday, "Do you think we will get to see the Discovery?  We're going to Dulles."  "Naah", I replied confidently, "not a chance."  Wrong.  As we landed we had a quick but close and clear view of her, still atop the 747.  Then when we got to our concourse we were able to see her across the runways.  We didn't know that we would be so privileged.  Here she is:

We had almost five hours' layover here at Dulles, enough time to enjoy the beautiful new international concourse.

Access to the comfortable Business Lounge operated by Lufthansa is part of the Volvo travel package - First Class, as advertised!  All the snacks and goodies we could ask for, plus wifi!  In fact, I'm having a cappuccino as I write.

Our flight to Copenhagen is on time for departure at 5:15 p.m.

  1. Praying for a safe and fun journey!! Looks like you're already off to a great start and really traveling in style (free snacks, cappuccino, etc.). And you even got to see the Discovery!
